On this day in 1978 the Sandgrounders earned a 2-2 draw away at Northwich Victoria, thanks in part to a fine display from Malcolm Dalrymple deputising for the injured Graham Cuneely.

Despite the performance secretary Gordon Hunt confirmed to the local press that an approach had been made after the game to acquire the services of the great Gordon Banks.

As we get towards this time of year the weather often has an effect on games. On this day in 1961, Southport travelled to Darlington but you have to take any match reports with a bit of a pinch of salt – especially when the press admit openly that they were relying on messengers to tell them what was going on!
