Real Name: Timothy James Ryan
Normal Position: Defender
Born: 10/12/1974(Stockport)

Two time Southport FC player of the season “Tiger” Tim Ryan spent three seasons with the Sandgrounders having signed in the summer of 1997 from Doncaster Rovers and was an integral part of the side that stepped out onto the Wembley turf for the Yellows in May 1998. His player of the season dominance during his 3 years spell was only briefly interrupted by defensive partner Scott Guyett, both highly successful Paul Futcher signings. The hard tackling left back/left sided centre half represented the English Semi-Professional side on a number of occasions whilst with the Sandgrounders and also went on to captain his country. Ryan regularly features in the “Best XI” of many supporters.
He began his career as a YTS apprentice at Scunthorpe and after a brief loan spell with Buxton signed for Doncaster Rovers at the start of the 1996-97 season. He featured 27 times for Rovers during his first spell and briefly joined Altrincham on loan in the March of the same season before signing for the Sandgrounders in the summer.
After making such an impression with the Sandgrounders Tim began to attract the attention of a number of clubs and Mark Wright’s failure to tie him down to a new contract saw him return to his old club Doncaster Rovers in May 2000 on a Bosman Free Transfer. Heavily criticised at the time by Wright for joining a fellow Conference club, he spent six years with the Yorkshire side, held the captaincy and won back to back promotions, securing a place in League One.
Following his exit from Belle Vue by mutual consent in January 2006 he joined Peterborough, teaming up with former Southport reserve team manager Steve Bleasdale during the time of Sky TV’s ill-fated “Big Ron Manager” experiment. Tim’s primary aim was to gain fitness following a slow final year with “Donny” and following Bleasdale’s high profile exit, with no new contract forthcoming he left for struggling Boston United at the end of the season.
Unfortunately for Tim it was to be the year when Boston’s financial problems came to the fore and faced with problems over pay he joined Darlington in January 2007 for a nominal fee.
His highlights with us were playing in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley and winning his first England cap whilst at the club. Tim recalls with fondness his great memories of playing alongside Paul Futcher who helped his game so much and taught him a lot.
Great to see him back at the Reunion game but injury kept him on the sidelines although you could tell he was itching to get involved.
