Full Name: Carl Baker
Normal Position: Midfielder
Born: 26/12/1982(Whiston)

Carl BakerSigned from Prescot Cables, Carl went on to make 118 appearances for The Sandgrounders with 18 as sub and he scored 31 times. It was Liam Watson who had spotted the undoubted talent that Carl had and he was delighted to bring Carl to the club. He took a while to settle in at Haig Ave but once he did he went on to become one of the best players ever to wear the yellow shirt and was an automatic selection for the Best Ever X1. He scooped every award going in the 2006/07 season, he really was the star of the season and it was no surprise when Morecambe snapped him up in the summer of 2007 in a deal that saw him become the Shrimps’ record signing. The attacking midfielder had been a long time target for Sammy McIlroy after impressing for the Sandgrounders scoring 12 goals from midfield. Carl did have a few clubs interested in signing him but he had known McIlroy for a while and he was someone he really admired. His dream was to play in the Football League and when the offer came in from Morecambe, Carl’s dream came true. He had a great first season scoring 11 League goals to be finish joint leading scorer alongside another former ‘Port player Jon Newby. A great lad who despite a few off field difficulties loved his football and wore his yellow shirt with pride.
Carl’s best moments at Haig Ave were winning promotion to the Conference and the championship win at Harrogate. Whilst at the club he worked as a Land Charges Officer for his local council.
In November 2005 Carl was called up to the England C squad, but was recalled by Southport due to an FA Cup replay against Woking. However he was recalled again for a match against Italy on 15 February 2006 which England won 3-1. He also played for England C in their 1-0 win over Finland on 1 June 2007.
