We are saddened to learn of the death of former Sandgrounder Cyril Robinson, who passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 90.
Cyril Robinson was born in Nottingham on 4th March, 1929. He joined Mansfield Town in 1947 and spent four years at the Stags before being picked up by Joe Smith, the manager of Blackpool.
Robinson featured in Blackpool’s 1953 FA Cup winning side, alongside former Sandgrounders Bill Perry and Stan Mortensen. After only 21 appearances in tangerine and finding first team opportunities limited he joined Northwich Victoria in 1955. After a year with Northwich he joined Bradford Park Avenue before joining Southport for the 1959-60 campaign.
Cyril made 43 appearances for Southport in all competitions and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
