Golden Days – Falling For Southport FC in the Sixties is a new book written by Southport fan Sean McPartlin
“I wrote this so that those who were there can perhaps pause and think of those happy days of our youth-in the stand, the Scarisbrick End, the Blowick End and on the Popular Side, our dreams contained in rusting corrugated iron, and based on hard, impacted, sloping earth. And I wrote it for those who are younger and have no memories of those Football League days, so that they might at least catch a glimpse, through the drawn back curtain of words and personal memories, of what it was like to watch Bingham’s Boys, and why it still matters
And to the old guy in the long grey tweed overcoat and the cloth cap, who would roar at intervals from the Blowick End “ Come on the Poooort!
See you all behind the goals”
The book is available to buy now for just £7.99 and it is currently available HERE
Alternatively, the club will also have a few copies available in the next two weeks to order through Rob Urwin who is working with Sean over the sales. Sean has very kindly decided to give all the profits sold via the club back to the club. They will be able to post out with appropriate P&P charges (£3.85) added in.
Contact rob@southportfc.net to order and make payment/postage/collection arrangements. We anticipate receiving our club stock in around two weeks.
Mike Braham will be providing a book review in due course, but suffice to say it is a brilliant read so far!
