In the 1884-85 season the club merged with the Southport Athletic Society. The team moved to the Sports Ground, Sussex Road. They remained at Sussex Road until 1889 when they moved to a new location on Scarisbrick New Road.

Boarding was erected around a portion of the ground in time for the 1885-86 season as a protection against the elements.
