BRADFORD PARK Avenue’s winless start to the season extended to ten games as they were dealt their heaviest defeat so far against a dominant Southport. The hosts came out on the front foot and their energetic start paid off within five minutes as Niall Watson laid the ball off to Jack Bainbridge from a long throw with Bainbridge striking a thunderbolt into the top corner from 20 yards to give the Sandgrounders an early lead. Port doubled their lead in the 41st minute as Watson’s cross found Jordan Archer, the striker laying it off to Tyler Walton who hammered into the bottom corner. Charlie Oliver added another from the penalty spot after Reece Staunton was adjudged to have handled a cross. If Oliver was on cloud after his goal he was brought back down to earth with a thud minutes later as he tucked inside to assist the Southport centre-backs as they failed to clear their lines, opening up space for Brad Dockerty to move into and slide the ball between Cam Mason’s legs to give Bradford a lifeline. Bradford continued to search for a way back into the game throughout the second half but failed to do much damage to the Sandgrounders’ defence and the home side finally put the game to bed with Archer’s glancing header in injury time.
