STAR MAN: Jamie Jellis (Tamworth)

ANDY PEAKS’ second-placed Tamworth got back to winning ways with a solid performance against Jim Bentley’s Southport. They went ahead with just six minutes on the clock after Nathan Tshikuna stroked home the opener with an 18-yard free-kick that beat the Sandgrounders’ wall and keeper Chris Renshaw. Tamworth could have doubled their lead sooner but had to wait until 26 minutes when Ben Acquaye’s ball into the area was attacked by Jordan Cullinane-Liburd but the final touch to take it past Renshaw came off at least one defender for an own goal. On 39 minutes Hartlepool loanee Chris Wreh drove one home from 12 yards out to give his new side an almost insurmountable lead at the break. After the restart Tamworth continued to press, forcing numerous corners and bringing Renshaw into action a number of times, but it was left to midfielder Kyle Finn to seal the final scoreline with 14 remaining with a curling effort from the right channel that beat Renshaw and nestled inside the far post. Lambs sub Kai Williams brought the best out of the visiting keeper and Marcus Carver nearly netted a consolation for Southport but was denied by the goal frame.
