Match Report – Southport Visiter – 18/11/2021

SOUTHPORT made heavy weather of beating a spirited Daisy Hill side who looked like they were going to hang on for a deserved draw and take the game to penalties.

The visitors finished the game with 10 men albeit for a few dying seconds after Hensley Mills was dismissed for a wild lunge at Josh Hmami.

Two late Niall Watson goals saw Southport progress to the next round

The impressive Connor Hughes had given the visitors the lead on 19 minutes with a long distance shot that flew past Tony McMillan making his 248th appearance for Southport in goal.

Southport huffed and puffed in the first half and hit the bar twice but Daisy Hill deserved to go in to the break one goal to the good.

It took until the 62nd minute for Southport to equalise when Connor Woods was on hand to finish from close range.

Southport dominated the second half but just as the game looked to be heading for penalties Niall Watson struck in the 88th and 90th minute to bag a brace and see the home side through,

Meanwhile, Southport have been awarded a rare home FA Trophy tie with Darlington visiting Haig Avenue on Saturday November 27th.
