Match Report – Southport Visiter – 20/03/1886

The “Stripes”, we understand, had on Saturday a set to with Bootle, on the Sussex-road ground, the outcome, so rumour says, being a draw – a result which it is stated was due to the wonderful play of the visitor’s custodian. Another rumour has it that Southport had a palpable goal given against them. We did not see the match, and therefore cannot say how this may be for truth. Someone in connection with the Sussex-road club seems to have have a lazy fit on this week, we should think, as we did not receive a report of last weeks’ proceedings. How’s this Mr Secretary or Captain? The public like to know that the original Association team are still in existence, and also what they are doing.
