SOUTHPORT SURRENDER

Athletic News

01/12/1913

By the odd goal of three Southport Central met their fate at Carlisle. Carlisle were the first to become dangerous, and were a goal ahead, through Mills, about twenty minutes from the start. After this the Carlisle defence was seriously troubled, and ten minutes from the interval Southport got an equaliser from Stringfellow, but after a quarter of an hour in the second half Cockburn put Carlisle ahead again. For their success Carlisle have largely to thank their excellent defence, which time and again baffled Southport’s fast and undoubtedly clever forwards.
