On this day in 1955, the Sandgrounders put 4 past Halifax Town in the Third Division North.
Halifax had a useful record on tour and had been finding goalscoring rather easier in the preceeding weeks than they had earlier in the season – their appointment of Willie Watson as player-manager had helped them turn around their fortunes. That said, despite the Southport forwards drawing blanks in the previous two games, few were expecting anything other than a Southport win.
