Died: 07/09/2014 (Tonge Moor)

Phil was a member of the Stafford Rangers FA Trophy winning squad in 1979 and had also played for Bolton Wanderers and Prestwich Heys. He was a non-stop player who drove the team from midfield scoring his share of goals and was top-scorer in the 1980-81 season for Macclesfield Town. On his arrival at the Moss Rose he was soon on the score sheet, scoring five goals in his first six matches and scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 home win against Netherfield in October 1982. A firm favourite at the Moss Rose, he represented the NPL XI in the 1981-82 season and was captain when the Silkmen won the Cheshire Senior Cup in 1983, their first trophy for ten years. On leaving Macclesfield he moved to Hyde United in 1984 where he spent two years before joining Chorley. He captained the Magpies during their FA Cup run in 86 when they lost out in a replay to Preston North End after a replay in the second round.
Phil joined Southport in the summer of 1988 as Captain and went on to play 51 games for the club, scoring 10 goals.
