One of our published aims is to promote the history and heritage of Southport Football Club and to foster the spirit of fellowship, sportsmanship and goodwill among former players and their supporters. Therefore we would very much like to hear from anyone with a keen interest in Southport’s history and heritage, especially if you have a rare and interesting item to tell us about, memories to share, skills to offer or simply time to spare.
We are a volunteer organisation and fund raising helps support our work for future generations of football fans to enjoy.
Anything we research, collect, collate or archive, whether documents or other materials of educational and/or historical value, shall be made available in the public domain for research and perusal purposes.
We are always looking for new items to add to our growing collection.
If you have any Port memorabilia, playing kit, documents or other historic items that you would like to tell us about or donate to the archive then please get in contact with us.
Our aim is to have more than one copy of each programme for preservation, research, reference and display. We would love to hear from you if you can help us complete our collection.
We welcome support and donations.
Do you have a significant item you’d like to donate or a significant item to tell us about? Are you interested in donating to the FPA, either on a one-off or on a regular basis? Would you like to get actively involved? Do you have specific skills that might be useful or would you like to write articles for the website? We’d love to hear from you!
Hi guys. Great to see what you are doing – and planning. I have been a great fan of SFC all my life (I’m now 64) although didn’t follow them properly until I left school and moved ‘back home’ for good in the early 1970s (difficult to follow them beforehand from Hong Kong, Singapore – and Catterick Camp!!). I became fanatical, going to all home and away games for several seasons, especially the 4th Division Championship win. I have many tales I could tell. Regularly riding on the team coach was a highlight. Later I became a journalist with the Southport Visiter and the sports dept made me match reporter the season we got promotion. I also put together the A4 ‘Glory! Glory! SFC’ booklet. I was a Scarisbrick Ender in my early years – remember Alex Russell’s equalising freekick against Hereford that clinched the title, right in front of me! I always wanted to write/put together ‘Up for the Cup’ detailing the club’s cup games over the years, but I think it has been covered pretty well now. I of course know Mike Braham and knew Geoff Wilde – in fact my footy hero, Steve Haw, always got us mixed up, due to our names, and thought Mike and I looked alike (we did at one point!). Anyway, here is me waffling on, when all I want to say is I would be happy to help in ANY way that I can (even research wise), if need be. My partner’s great grandad, Charles Halsall, is mentioned in one of the publications we have, helped to move and build the new ground – in Ash Lane (Haig Avenue). He was supposed to have been a player, but we haven’t found any evidence of that yet. I have also worked the turnstyles and been the DJ announcer – and had a trial when I was 18, good enough to be watched again, but that is all it amounted to, unfortunately lol Take care and good luck with the project.
Re the Alex Russell equaliser in the promotion year I was to behind the goal, the match was against Hartlepool not Hereford.
