Issued by the Sun newspaper, 504 different stamps could be collected plus special issues. A 164 page album was available to stick your stamps into, costing 10p from newsagents. The album also included the season’s fixtures. Tokens appeared in the newspaper, and six tokens plus 5p got you 12 stamps. It was suggested you used stamp hinges to stick them in your album, but I suspect most collectors just ‘licked’ them. The following season the Sun ran with 3D star cards, with Southport not featuring.
How many complete sets survive? The album I have is, I believe, missing 3!
