Joined Burnley after a practice game in 1903 and had three strong seasons at Turf Moor where he was very highly regarded. After leaving Turf Moor he had a spell at Oldham Athletic before taking a coaching post at Sparta in Rotterdam for a season prior to joining the Sandgrounders.
Joined 1/6th Kings Liverpool when the war broke out and in 1917 was badly wounded, shortly afterwards going lame.
