Four-midable Linnets enjoy their revenge

The Non-League Football Paper

JUST over three months ago Southport went to The Walks and came away with a comprehensive 4-1 win. King’s Lynn exacted full revenge for that with an excellent away day and left The Big Help Stadium full value for their thumping win over a lacklustre Southport side who have got into a bad run of conceding goals. In a game played in a strong wind, it was the visitors who adapted better to the conditions. Poor defending contributed to the opening goal when a static home rearguard failed to deal with a long throw and Josh Coulson was on hand at the back post to head home on 14 minutes. Southport responded well with Brad Holmes firing narrowly over and David Morgan had a great chance to draw the scores level but his effort was blocked. The Linnets increased their lead in the 19th minute with Jordan Ponticelli heading home from close range after good work on the wing from Kian Ronan. It was more of the same in the second period with the visitors adding further goals through Gabriel Rogers on 57 minutes and Bartosz Cybulski on 79 minutes with the Southport defence all at sea. Holmes drew a superb save from Paul Jones in the King’s Lynn goal which was the nearest the home side came. STAR MAN: Ben Stephens (King’s Lynn Town) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
